Nineteenth Virtual Symposium: App Brings Silicon Valley Swinging Into The Digital Age
|
This is my first participation in the symposium, I want to thank you for this initiative. I found a great diversity and lots of very interesting topics. So thank you. Sommaire Et la souffrance vgtale L'être idéal ? Un ange dévasté par l'humour. E.M. Cioran

Risk avoidance is one thing -- and a smart thing, at that -- but I think I could have stressed more clearly that this is a during-the-party app, which really gets up my nose. Once you're on site, trust your five senses... and if your head is down and you're wrapped up in the small screen, your senses are dulled. Trust me on this one: I walk behind people who are wrapped up in their mobile devices all day long. It's a wonder I haven't succumbed to sidewalk rage yet... I'm not seeing where this is much different from the swinger websites out there... other than that it's an app. Technology is only bringing the swinger community down in my opinion. Probably only in my opinion... but knowing TOO much about potential partners via e-format (or i-format) is actually a turn-off for me. I've been randomly saying "SCIENCE" in Thomas Dolby's voice all weekend for some reason. In a way you're agreeing with me: I think the app gives too much information, as opposed to seeing how people interact in person and then making a judgment. Y'know, watching how they eat pie, or whatever. And yes, I think we've ALL had Thomas Dolby running through our head this week. Hive mind! Hive mind! We lived without this stuff, and got along fine for thousands of years. My new pet peeve is people, and their love of their cell phones. People are so tuned into that little screen, and barely notice the wonderful world around them. (And, for what it's worth, if you are walking in front of me and I can't go around you and you're using your mobile and walking slowly, I WILL walk over you. All over you. With these boots. Which are made for walking. And one of these days...) I did not have a cell phone until this year. I did just fine. I will say that I find the cell phone has destroyed more conversations, dates and meetings than any other device I know. as an executive I ban them from meetings. I also ban them from shift work. you can receive emergency calls on the agency phones. I want you focused on our clients. and NO ONE needs to be connected to work 24/7 unless they are a surgeon or the president. You cannot conceive the many without the one.

I certainly don't need to use one when I'm in a social situation, unless I'm feeling especially anti-social. And if that's the case, I can just go home, where there's strong dry ginger ale and adequate reading material. As a game designer I see a need for a software limitation to the bronze party. As we see here on BBW Tonight every day, some men will immediately shotgun the site, hitting on every woman without taking the time to learn anything about them. Offering any response at all to one of these men is just an instant invitation to trouble. We have seen numerous occasions at BBW Tonight where a polite response from a woman was misinterpreted and led to an unhappy ending. I don't know how the bronze software works, but I suggest that users be restricted from selecting more than 40%-50% of their fellow guests. My featured post this week: Pulling Fantasy Sex Out of My Ass.

I am always amazed at the ways people meet up as well as who they meet up with. I can at least see that people who are techie may be drawn to others of that ilk. Now, back when I was young and dinosaurs roamed the earth...

I did watch the video. The Helen Fisher interview felt tacked on and out of place. My piece was about the tech aspects of the parties, but I did have some notes on her and was going to use them... but she is one voice, and -- quite frankly -- she's wrong. I've met couples who have been swinging for decades, and they are very much in love and rock solid. And I've met couples who were exhibiting signs of impending train wreck, and sure enough, the train wrecked. In short, lifestyle couples are like the rest of couples... Can't wait to hear about your ten spectacular ways of proving her wrong... oh, wait, that's your blog, isn't it? I'm not the type that would enjoy the randomness of the key game. Most likely I don't fit the swinger typology (despite what transpires in the realm of fantasy). The Internet and mobile technology are valuable "keys" allowing access to people and information that would otherwise be out of reach. However, they also creates a false sense of need/unfulfillment, that one must try out everything, just because it is now accessible. Maybe the filter the mobile apps provide is a sort of Swingers-Lite.

However, they also creates a false sense of need/unfulfillment, that one must try out everything, just because it is now accessible. Maybe the filter the mobile apps provide is a sort of Swingers-Lite. But this is based on only the most superficial secondhand exposure to it. Perhaps it works among groups of people who all know each other. Perhaps there are opt-outs, or safeguards, if one winds up with a partner with whom one does not wish to play. The app is an information app. You're correct: It does seem to offer the option of choice. My quibble with it is that it gets people focusing on their phones, as opposed to the real world, while at a social gathering. Hmm, what would an app for SwingersLite (TM) look like? Anyone have programming skills and a hedonistic bent? Like fast food... It has became Fast Sex ... I still prefer to prepare my meals tho, no matter how long does it takes, it's all about the process, and in the end it tastes much better than the ready made ones... Maybe its our generation fault and the generations before us... the lack of patience in showing how things can be done without rushing... Good post (as always) {=} Between Heaven & Hell - My Kingdom Guestbook and Messages box

Some how we lived without apps before but now we can't live without them hugs V Great post!!! Except the weather, of course. And the restaurant finder. And the guidance system app. That's pretty useful. And sometimes it's good to know what's showing around my neighborhood in the various theaters. And some games for when the subway is stalled again. But other than those, I don't need any apps. Probably. Thank you!
