The Royalty of Unloyalty
The Royalty of Unloyalty The name of this piece came to me as I was reading a New York Times article entitled: Everybodys Business -- The Highcost of Loyalty to your Cellphone. Where they talked about 'switching-costs'... socially. Switching free email services being no small matter because of the bother of informing all your correspondents of your new address. The one reason Facebook doesn't worry too much that you'll dump it over some privacy imbroglio. You could move to another social network service but would all your friends follow you? Which brings me to to loyalty and why it's considered such a high value in this day and age, recalling that prevalent theme in the film "Up In The Air", whose main character I strongly identified with. Depending on which angle you're taking loyalty is over-rated. It's stressful just the thought of it. Consider the ramifications, who wants to have to think about if all your friends//aquaintences/associates would follow you in making a decision you make or over an idea. Thats dead weight you're carrying around with you day in day out. No one needs that shit! We're overloaded with information as is. Overwhelming stimuli constantly threatens basic functions, like the humming bird who must feed in such short increments to support it's intense metabolism, we're less then an hour away from starvation, from that momentary frame of mine where you can be alone with yourself away from everyone and everything outside of history. Not the life-giving starvation we feel when we need to eat, but the leeching, energy sucking starvation of a moments peace, that soothing state of mind thats so rare, so scarce to find in people these days, in this day and age. The perverse lesson from this? Infidelity often pays off better than blind loyalty. I'm a Legitimate BBW Tonight. |
