God, I hate texting

I fucking hate texting with a passion. Especially when it's not a quick text and asking me long winded questions. Why not call? Texts irritate me to no end.

Only guys that I've given my number to on here text me. It's gotten to the point that's how I distinguish if I gave out my number on here or real life. Now when guys on here ask for my number, I have to give out an disclaimer. If you just want to text then let's stay on the site and exchange messages cause I wont repond to texts.

For me, texts don't show me anything. Speaking to you, helps me to see you as real and catches my attention when it comes to picking who I would meet and greet with. If I never heard your voice or only had one quick chat, you never pop in my head when I'm free to do a meet and greet.

Quite a few times, I look over those who text me cause I already made my preference known. In trying to condition people to call instead of text me, I have an unlimited source of amusement and frustration depending on the person.

I avoided getting another cell for years but costs dictated it was "better". I agree, texting is a PITA but useful in some situations, but not for long conversations. Voice to voice communications are best when face to face isn't possible.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I am the opposite. I hate talking on the phone. I have worked call center customer services jobs since 1999 and I try to avoid the phone at all costs. The exception is with established folks I know i can carry a conversation with them. However, for new folks it is like pulling teeth to get me on the phone. LOL

LOL everyone I now is a 'texter' and does it profusely. I myself, as I type for a living, prefer to talk!!!!!! There are, as Redrockrascal said, times when it is necessary, but on a whole I won't text and I tell everyone my phone doesn't even text.

I think as a society we are so detached from human contact that many have lost what social grace actually is and they no longer know how to socially interact with each other. I prefer human contact any day over texting. I am a phone person all the way. H*ll, my cell phone is just a phone it doesn't even have any games on it and there is no camera either. LOL

Plus it's a easy way to lie about yourself, but you are so spot on. Guys totally miss the true communication of an actual verbal conservation.

I can get that since you're always on the phone for your job. But if you're interested in someone wouldn't you like to know that they can at the very least hold an interesting conversation ?

Wait, no games? What do you do when you're waiting in a long line or another scenario that I can't think of right now? I agree that it seems like social interaction has gone down in the last few years. If it's not through a screen then there's little to no interaction.

LOL honestly, I just stand and wait the way people used to do when in a long line. I am not have attention deficit disorder that if I see a squirrel I have to go run after it. I don't fidget and I don't get all in a hissy fit over it either. I just wait a few more minutes and enjoy the day. I look at today's generation and think how they would die with no television, no computer, and God forbid if they had a car that didn't have power windows and power locks!!! Actually having to roll the window down would just about kill them!! LOL I remember playing hide and seek outside at night, playing cops and robbers and your hand became your weapon and you said "POW POW" or some other noise to get the bad guy with it, and I remember playing four square with that red rubber ball that left welts on you if you got hit with it when playing dodge ball. Geesh that last one they don't even let kids play any longer because they might get hurt. Well, that was the point of the game!! Get out of the way or learn to catch the ball!!! LOL Kids have no idea on how to do anything if the power goes out.

I admit I'm not that great at patiently waiting in lines and need something to focus on unless I start fidgeting. I do agree with you, technology has made alot of people mentally and physically lazy. But personally I can make do without it, it will just be hard to resist because the amount of information that's at my fingertips that so very easily accessible.

The next text message I send, will be my first. Oh yeah, I also still write letters.

Off of here, it you never meet this person before they can text anything, just like a person can lie on their profile. In a verbal conversation, I can get a baseline for their normal tone. When a person lie there are subtle cues physically and verbally. When I get a person's baseline I can take educated guesses if there is a deviation in tone.

The last letter I wrote was in 5th grade to a pen pal. I shudder at the thought.

I get all my pussy from texting , I think it is the way my fingers dance across and light up the keyboard with the little small letters nobody can see in the first place so I just put my big fat finger on a couple of letters and repeat . When the ladies look at the text I sent they always call and ask what is that you texted me Otis ? That is when I hit them with the big question ...] Yeah you already know the question .

I text with some friends, and frequently with my sister, because we may not have time for a phone conversation- she's at work and can only snag a free minute here and there to say something. So our conversation may go on all day but with long gaps in between texts. It's a little like an email conversation, only the messages are quite brief. Or we may simply not have all that much to say at any one point, but as the talk progresses we come up with something we want to share. I don't think it's any big deal- just one more way to communicate, and you can do it at your leisure instead of having to respond right now like you would in a phone call.

I don't just rely on that and it's only an educated guess. I know too well from living with a compulsive liar how hard it is to distinguish between truth and false. It wouldn't work on professional liars, but you nailed it when you said follow your instincts.

I can understand that. Due to circumstances, texting might be prefered. With my friends and family it's too late for them they have already been conditioned not to text me unless I can reply back with one word.

I'm actually mixed on this one -- mostly because I view texting as a short version of emails --- or a drawn out version of online messaging/chatting ( - which now that I think about it may have really only been used in that short window of time between the internet being common place, and cell phones becoming common place).

What I absolutely hate about messaging is the use of "texteese" - that is an automatic interest killer for me, but otherwise text messages are just convenient for me to send/receive as my phones (personal and work) are almost always on silent, and rarely being carried when I'm at home and actually have time for conversations....

likewise - which is the point where I lose all interest.... as soon as I have to start trying to decipher a message the sender apparently wanted me to know, and I'm having to do so purely because they were too lazy/rushed to type a few extra letters (or even use an auto-correct/spellcheck feature).....

So yeah, I just take it as a sign of how little they value my time and their own intended message - and given actual communication can be difficult enough without someone intentionally trying to make it harder.....
